In 1993, The Academy of Martial arts became independent entity in order to pursue Classical Martial Arts of a world class caliber. With the pride in the development of the Academy's Goju-ryu style to traditional Okinawan Meibu-kan Goju-ryu Karate-do, a personal Club Crest became necessary to style to:

A. Reflect our pride on our place of learning, The Academy of Martial Arts.

B. Demonstrate our appreciation of our classical education.

C. Remind us of the attributes for which we are striving.

In February of 1994, Sensei Chris Hurst designed the Crest. Then Scott Nichol executed the artwork and the Crest we wear today was created.

The figure in the center of the Crest is androgynous, reflecting the fact that the Martial Arts is for everyone, male or female.

The meditative posture demonstrates the contemplative nature of the true Martial Artist, and the mental and spiritual side of Meibu-kan Goju-ryu Karate-do.

The shape of the Crest is a softened triangle, harkening to the Hard Soft style which we study, and reminding us of the three aspects of Martial Arts. The mind, the Body and the Spirit. The triangle, a three sided figure, is a symbol of great strength.

The deepest meaning of the Crest is sincerity and discipline. All students should be grateful for the values the Crest represents and wear it with pride.
